Choirs announced for Derby's Last Choir Standing event

The ´óÏó´«Ã½ today announces details of the choirs performing in a giant singing workshop in the centre of Derby, in conjunction with Last Choir Standing, ´óÏó´«Ã½ One's new Saturday night search to find the nation's favourite choir.

Offering viewers of the show the chance to have a go themselves, the event will involve a mass singing workshop for the audience by Mike Brewer OBE, world class choral trainer, and performances from regional choirs.

The choirs at the event – at 3pm on Saturday 16 August at The Big Screen, Market Place, Derby – will be DaleDiva and SOSA-XA!, two groups with contrasting styles encompassing diversity and a love for music.

Derbyshire's newest ladies' choir, DaleDiva includes women of all ages who want to improve their singing, make new friends and have fun.
Ìý
Led by founder and Chorus Director Ally Law, who has been singing in choirs for 27 years, they perform a variety of four-part, unaccompanied arrangements, mainly in the barbershop style.

Their repertoire includes Can You Feel The Love Tonight (from The Lion King), We Are Family (by Sister Sledge), Lean On Me, I Will Follow Him (from Sister Act) and You Raise Me Up.

SOSA-XA! was formed in 2001, with members from Africa and continental Europe, as well as England.
Ìý
The choir explores multiple southern-African languages and singing styles, including imbube, the style made famous by Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo on the album Graceland.

Hosted by ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Derby presenter Aleena Naylor, the event will be relayed onto the Big Screen for all to see.

Highlights will be posted on bbc.co.uk/lastchoirstanding and an audio recording of the mass sing-along will be made available to download.
Ìý
Five hundred seated tickets forthe event will be available from 7am on Friday 11 July until midnight on Sunday 27 July.

To be in the seated audience, members of the public need to register for tickets either via bbc.co.uk/lastchoirstanding or by telephone on 03700 100 150 (calls cost no more than calls to 01/02 geographic numbers).

Tickets are free.

In the event that more people apply for tickets than are available, a lottery system will be used to select successful applicants.
