Choirs announced for Last Choir Standing event in Hull
|
The 大象传媒 today released details of the choirs performing in a giant singing workshop in the centre of Hull, in conjunction with Last Choir Standing, 大象传媒 One's new Saturday night search to find the nation's favourite choir.
听
Offering viewers of the show the chance to have a go themselves, the event will involve a mass singing workshop for the audience given by world class choral trainer Mike Brewer OBE and performances from regional choirs.
听
On Saturday 9 August 2008, 3pm, at The Big Screen, Queen Victoria Square, Hull, the choirs will be Chechelele and Gay Abandon, two groups with contrasting styles which encompass diversity and a love for music.
听
Chechelele (pronounced "Cheh-cheh-leh-leh") are an a capella choir from York, specialising in traditional world music.
听
Performing traditional music from just about everywhere, they describe themselves as "one of the most unusual, innovative, entertaining and fun groups on the folk and world music scene."
听
Their repertoire includes Pokare Kare, a Moari love song; Babethandaza, a South African hymn about freedom; Touridion, a drinking song from medieval France; and Ukwayamane, a traditional Zulu song in praise of "the stubbornest meanest most temperamental cow you ever saw!"
听
Performing with Chechelele, Gay Abandon is West Yorkshire's lesbian, gay and bisexual choir.
听
As well as their passion for music they put an emphasis on support and accessibility for all, with a wide range of musical ability and experience, as well as sign language and wheelchair accessibility at concerts.
听
Having been together for 10 years, the four-part mixed choir have performed in London, Paris and Berlin as well as venues throughout Yorkshire and the North of England.
听
The Hull event will be hosted by 大象传媒 Look North presenter Peter Levy and will be relayed onto the Big Screen for all to see.
听
The following week, on Saturday 16 August at 3pm, Derby will play host to its two local choirs: DaleDiva and SOSA-XA! at The Big Screen, Market Place.
听
Highlights will be posted on bbc.co.uk/lastchoirstanding and an audio recording of the mass sing-along will be made available to download.
听
Five hundred seated tickets for each of the events will be available from 7am on Friday 11 July until midnight on Sunday 27 July.
听
To be in the seated audience, members of the public will need to register for tickets at bbc.co.uk/lastchoirstanding or by telephone on 03700 100 150 (calls cost no more than calls to 01/02 geographic numbers).
听

听
