Samantha Power plays Debbie Rossi © Hartswood Films/Matt Squire

The Cup – a six-part comedy series for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two

Samantha Power plays Debbie Rossi

Samantha Power is most familiar to television audiences following her regular appearances in Little Britain.

Ìý

In The Cup she is newly divorced and newly thin Debbie, who plays the field pretty extensively in her search for a stepfather for her young son.

Ìý

Samantha explains: "Debbie is Janice's best mate. She is recently divorced and has lost a lot of weight. She's obsessed with going to the gym and has suddenly become rather self-obsessed too.

Ìý

"She has a son called Jack who plays in the football team, and she keeps palming him off on Janice so she can go to the gym and go out on dates – she seems to have a different fella every week!"

Ìý

Despite this self-absorption, Debbie does have a good heart: "She's not malicious at all. She'll say to Janice, 'Oh don't eat that chocolate croissant, come to the gym instead' and it's because she wants what's best for people and wants Janice to feel good about herself – I think she's almost a female version of Terry in a way; self-centred but somehow likeable."

Ìý

Debbie doesn't exactly share everyone's love of football: "She's really not that bothered about the games – she'll often be on the side of the pitch chatting away on her mobile or telling Janice to cheer Jack on while she goes and snogs someone in the car!

Ìý

"But she and Janice do get excited about the possibility of their getting through to the final so they can have a weekend away in a hotel and a bit of fun!"
