As Lay Reader, Nigel is a potential source of support for the vicar at St Saviour's. Unfortunately for Adam, however, he's actually a pedantic careerist who thinks he should be running the place.
With an infuriatingly extensive knowledge of obscure theology and church history, Nigel is effortlessly irritating and fiercely competitive – and never misses an opportunity to undermine Adam.
Miles Jupp started performing stand-up on the Scottish circuit, where he was nominated for a Perrier Best Newcomer Award for his debut Edinburgh show, Gentlemen Prefer Brogues. He goes to Edinburgh again this year with his show Fibber In The Heat.
He will host the radio quiz shows Newsjack and Swots this summer and frequently appears on Radio 4's The News Quiz. He has also made three documentaries for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4 with producer David Stenhouse: By Jove, Carruthers!; Miles Jupp's Muscular Lines; and Fu Manchu, in Edinburgh.
Last year he appeared in an episode of The Thick Of It as well as ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland's Tank Commander and Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle. Feature film appearances include Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, Death Defying Acts, Sherlock Holmes and Is Anybody There?
