Tuesday 23rd September: Cardiff
Do we live in a sexist country?
What are the comments you hear everyday? We asked our audience to tell us.
鈥淒o we live in a sexist country?鈥 is one of our questions this week (Tuesday at 8pm, 大象传媒 Three 鈥 don鈥檛 miss it!). Brendan, who executive produced this film, said, "Making this film was a real eye opener for me as a guy. As someone who鈥檚 never been cat-called, sexually harassed and so on, it鈥檚 hard to understand what this experience is like." And it wasn鈥檛 just Brendan. When we talked about this issue on the team, it seemed like there was a real gulf between the experience of the men and women.
We decided to do a for our audience to send us the comments they hear in everyday life. The response was shocking for me (we had to cut out some of the worst comments because we鈥檙e on before 9pm) but I feel like I still don鈥檛 really know the answer to the question, how representative are these comments of life in the UK? What do you think?
And how much does sexist language like this affect even more serious issues like sexual assault 鈥 is it part of what is sometimes called 鈥榬ape culture鈥? Finally, as many of those on Facebook have been asking us, what about men? Have we forgotten about them? Let us know what you think by tweeting us at or leaving a comment on our .
On the panel this week to talk about this question and whatever other issues are around we have Leanne Woods, the Leader of Plaid Cymru and one of the few female heads of a political party; Omar Hamdi, Egyptian/Welsh comedian and (in his own words) 鈥榗ompassionate conservative鈥; journalist Angela Epstein who argues we no longer need feminism; and Laura Bates, the founder of the #EverydaySexism Project. Should be an interesting mix!
What else will we be talking about? Well that鈥檚 up to you of course. Our page on Facebook is where you can click like on the questions you want asked on the show. On Tuesday we add up the likes and put them in order.
Don't forget to catch us at 8pm on 大象传媒 Three, Tuesday 23rd September and have your say!
