So, Springwatch team, what first attracted you to the magnificent, wildlife-packed wilderness splendour of the Cairngorms?

The Springwatch team is back in the Cairngorms for three weeks of programmes celebrating seasonal activity in the natural world.
While Gillian Burke investigates coastal wildlife in Cornwall, Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan and Iolo Williams return to their base at the Dell of Abernethy, having already spent time there earlier this year for Winterwatch.
It’s easy to understand the allure of this special place. Capercaillie, golden eagles, ptarmigan, red squirrels, pine marten, mountain hares, red deer and crested tits are just some of the elusive species of wildlife that can be found within the Cairngorms National Park.
Whether they’ll oblige the Springwatch cameras remains to be seen...
