Elephant ID guide
The Dynasties team followed a family of Kenyan elephants that were first discovered by scientists 50 years ago.
They were christened the ‘AAs’ and every member of the family, past and present, has been given a name starting with A.
The main characters of this Dynasties episode are Angelina and her twin calves, Atlas and Alana.
Angelina
Angelina, the heroine of the story and mother to twins Atlas and Alana, is fortunately a very easily recognisable elephant - her left tusk faces backwards.
This distinguishing feature doesn’t seem to affect her, except for having to sleep on one side when she lies down!
Atlas
Atlas was consistently smaller and skinnier than his twin sister, and had a groove/notch on his left ear.
Always by Angelina’s side, he was much less bold than his twin sister.
Alana
Alana grew faster than her twin brother Atlas, and she was taller than him throughout the filming period.
Her head was covered in orange hairs, and with age, the tops of both her ears started to curl over, making her quite distinct.
