´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra: Create Yarmouth
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra & Orchestras Live three year programme in Great Yarmouth.
What is Create Yarmouth?
Create Yarmouth is a music education project that builds on a rolling programme of work led by Orchestras Live in the Great Yarmouth area. It aims to engage young people and adults in inspirational music events, to raise aspiration, provide learning pathways and improve peoples’ wellbeing through collaborations with world-class musicians, digital artists, producers and arts managers. From January 2022, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra began an exciting three-year residency in the region, in partnership with Orchestras Live.
What’s happening?
´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra’s Create Yarmouth activity includes:
- ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra musicians delivering workshops in every primary school in Great Yarmouth to encourage students to get creative with music, both online and in person
- free schools concerts
- full orchestral concerts for the general public with reduced ticket prices and offers
- Heritage Action Zone cultural programme, involving small ensembles of musicians performing in a variety of heritage and community settings
- working with young composers to offer learning and development as well as opportunities to showcase their work.
- a programme of work with local young producers, developing their cultural industry skills (e.g. publicity and comms, stage design, event management, etc) and enabling them to take an active role in delivering the ´óÏó´«Ã½ CO public events.
Orchestras Live, our co-producer
Orchestras Live believes that orchestras are for everyone and that live orchestral music has the power to inspire people for a lifetime.
A national producer and music charity based in Leeds, they work with a broad range of artistic partners, including the country’s leading professional orchestras, to ensure everyone can access world-class orchestral experiences. They partner with local authorities, music education hubs, community groups and welfare providers across England, and particularly in rural and coastal communities that are traditionally culturally under-served.
They work with partners who align with their principles of creativity, inclusion, collaboration and forward-thinking, to make positive change, to influence the sector and to increase the diversity and quality of engagement and sustainability of live orchestral music for future generations.
Stuart Bruce, Senior Creative Producer, Orchestras Live
“Over the next three years, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra will bring a range of inspirational activity that will involve many local young people and adults discovering, creating, producing and performing music together, developing skills, broadening of audiences for orchestral music, and contributing to the cultural infrastructure and living heritage of east Norfolk.”
Create Yarmouth is co-produced with Orchestras Live, in partnership with Norfolk Music Education Hub, Norfolk Museum Service, Norfolk Arts Service, Enjoy Great Yarmouth, Creative Collisions, Out There Arts and St George’s Theatre.
´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra – educational and community work
The Create Yarmouth residency builds on the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra’s work in educational and community activities across the UK, which includes the orchestra taking a leading role in the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Ten Pieces programme - which works with schools and children across the UK - and being a key partner in the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Young Composer competition and the newly launched ´óÏó´«Ã½ Open Music programme.
Bill Chandler, Director of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra:
“The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra are committed to serving communities across the UK and bringing the joy of orchestral music to everyone. We’re proud to be collaborating with Orchestras Live and the brilliant work they do, and this exciting residency will allow us to immerse ourselves in the cultural life of Great Yarmouth.”
