Drama about a 35-year-old cleaner with a drink problem who discovers she is pregnant by her unaffectionate and brutish boyfriend. Her problems intensify when her mother comes to visit while her grumpy and abusive father gets treatment at a nearby hospital. But living in the flat below is a kindly old widower, who engages in an innocent romance with the mother and becomes a friend.
