Lilian doesn't want tea and sympathy.
Lilian is finding giving up drink for Lent hard going. Matt delights in taunting her and has put a padlock on the drinks cabinet. To her annoyance Jennifer and Brian think it's funny.
Helen is upset, confiding in Ian that her counsellor is trying to push her to do things she's not ready for, like revisiting the club where she made a fool of herself. Ian convinces her that she should be brave and try, so that she can put it all behind her. She needs to challenge herself. Helen is scared, but says she'll try.
Brian has been to see his accountant, and tells Jennifer that he suggested giving a cottage each to Kate and Alice, to limit their future tax liability. He speculates about selling up at Home Farm, giving the children a cash settlement and retiring somewhere warm and sunny. Jennifer is sceptical about Brian being able to let go the reins and suggests handing the running of the farm over to Adam. Brian isn't keen, preferring Debbie's idea of selling the big machinery and contracting out the arable. When Adam hears Brian's plans, he is angry and considers himself to be sidelined again, as always.
