In the space of just 17 months, Hibernian saw off an attempted hostile takeover bid by their city rivals Hearts, avoided relegation from the Premier Division because of league reconstruction and at the start of the 1991/92 faced financial collapse when the club went into receivership. Set against that background, Hibernian's triumph in the 1991 League Cup Final is even more remarkable.
