Donal MacIntyre with reports on football betting scams, the links between binge-drinking and cocaine use and how the number of suspended teachers has doubled in the last five years.

Donal MacIntyre with hard hitting investigations and original journalism, including:

Football betting scam

The brutal murder of two Chinese students in Newcastle earlier this year pointed to their involvement in an international online betting ring. We investigate how betting syndicates are illegally infiltrating British sporting events. One insider estimates there could be as many as fifty 'scouts' at every Premier League match, hired to provide instantaneous reports so that 'in-running' bets can be laid and beat the bookies. It's a big business, but scouts and gamblers are breaking the law and sport authorities stand accused of not taking the problem seriously enough.

Drink and drugs

We'll be looking at how binge drinkers are increasing the amount they can consume by taking cocaine, and how this is fuelling a ferocious wave of violence outside pubs and clubs. The police have been slow to identify aggressive drunks who also use cocaine and so offenders are not being referred to drug services.

Suspended teachers

We have exclusive new figures which show that the number of teachers suspended on full pay has more than doubled in the last five years. One local council has spent over a million pounds on teachers suspended due to child protection allegations and alcohol misuse.
