Donal MacIntyre investigates VAT 'carousel' fraudsters and the dangers caused by dazzling airline pilots with laser beams.

The Fraudsters' Merry-go-round:

Donal MacIntyre looks into 'carousel' fraudsters - gangs who ship low-bulk, high-value goods such as mobile phones and computer chips round the EU tax-free, then claim back the VAT they never paid. The scam is estimated to cost EU taxpayers up to 170 billion pounds a year. He examines the backgrounds and lifestyles of some gang members and asks what more can be done to crack down on 'carousel' fraud.

Laser Daze:

This week the UK's biggest pilots' union warned us of the possibility of a major air disaster if no action is taken to tackle the growing problem of pilots being dazzled by laser beams. In the last year, the number of cases of pilots blinded by green laser pens aimed by people on the ground has more than doubled. Donal MacIntyre investigates where these laser pens are coming from and talks to one pilot who suffered a laser attack as he was landing his plane.
