MYBSLBOOKS AND ITV SIGNED STORIES
A report from the National Deaf Children's Society last year found that only a third of deaf children achieve five A-C GCSE grades compared with 60% of hearing children. Poor literacy is blamed for the growing attainment gap. As part of the National Year of Reading See Hear takes a look at two new initiatives aimed at improving literacy for deaf children. myBSLbooks and ITV Signed Stories are both making the best of British children's books available free on the Internet with British Sign Language translation. The initiatives aim to build free, fully accessible online libraries of signed books. We see how the books are made and what their young audience thinks of them.
