An Litir Bheag 190
Tha sinn a鈥 dol a thoirt s霉il air a鈥 Bh矛oball an t-seachdain seo. Agus air sluagh 脿raidh a nochdas anns a鈥 Bh矛oball. Anns an Tiomnadh Nuadh tha litrichean aig an Abstol Ph貌l. An-dr脿sta, tha mi a鈥 dol a thoirt s霉il bheag air aon litir. 鈥橲 e sin Litir an Abstoil Ph貌il chum nan Galatianach. Anns an Litir, tha P貌l a鈥 sgr矛obhadh, 鈥淥 a Ghalatianacha amaideach...鈥 鈥 Oh, foolish Galatians. Cha robh e buileach toilichte leotha.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Bha P貌l ann an Galatia roimhe. Bha e a鈥 searmonachadh ann. Thathar ag r脿dh ann an Leabhar Ghn矛omharan nan Abstol gun deach P貌l 鈥渢ro th矛r Galatia uile ...鈥 Agus tha P貌l fh猫in ag r脿dh gun d鈥 fhuair e f脿ilte chridheil bho na daoine ann an Galatia. Ach chaidh cuid an aghaidh na bha P貌l a鈥 teagasg dhaibh. Anns an Litir tha e ag iarraidh air na Galatianaich tilleadh don rathad a sheall e dhaibh.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Ach c脿ite a bheil Galatia? Oir chan eil e air a鈥 mhapa an-diugh. Uill, tha e anns an d霉thaich air an robh Asia Minor. An-diugh canaidh sinn Anato-lia ris an d霉thaich sin. Tha i mar ph脿irt dhen Tuirc. Bha Galatia ann am meadhan Asia Minor. B鈥 e Ancyra pr矛omh bhaile nan Galatianach. 鈥橲 e sin far a bheil pr矛omh bhaile na Tuirc an-diugh 鈥 baile m貌r air a bheil Ankara.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Nuair a bha P貌l ann an Galatia, d猫 an c脿nan a bha e a鈥 bruidhinn ris na daoine? 鈥橲 e Ceiltich a bha anns na Galatianaich. Tha an Gal- aig toiseach an ainm ag innse sin. Coltach ris na daoine ann an Gaul is Galicia 鈥 is na G脿idheil fh猫in 鈥 bha c脿nan Ceilteach aca. Bha iad c脿irdeach dhuinn, fad 脿s.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Bha c脿nan Ceilteach fhathast aca nuair a bha P貌l nam measg. Rinn fear aithris anns a鈥 cheathramh linn AC air a鈥 ch脿nan aca. Thuirt e gun robh i coltach ris a鈥 ch脿nan aig treubh ann am meadhan na Roinn E貌rpa. 鈥橲 e treubh Ceilteach eile a bha sin.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Ach ciamar a fhuair Ceiltich cho fada sear ri Asia Minor? Bheir sinn s霉il air a鈥 cheist sin an ath-sheachdain.The Little Letter 190
We鈥檙e going to look at the Bible this week. And at a particular people that appear in the Bible. In the New Testament the Apostle Paul has letters. Right now, I鈥檓 going to have a quick look at one letter. That is the Letter of the Apostle Paul to the Galatians. In the Letter, Paul writes, 鈥淥h, foolish Galatians鈥︹ He wasn鈥檛 exactly enamoured with them.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Paul was in Galatia before. He was preaching there. It is said in the Book of the Acts of the Apostles that Paul went through 鈥渢he entire land of Galatia鈥? And Paul himself says that he received a warm welcome from the people in Galatia. But some rejected what Paul was teaching them. In the Letter he asks the Galatians to return to the road he showed them.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 But where is Galatia? Because it鈥檚 not on the map today. Well, it鈥檚 in the country that was called Asia Minor. Today we call that country Anatolia. It is part of Turkey. Galatia was in the middle of Asia Minor. Ancyra was the capital of the Galatians. That is where the capital city of Turkey is today 鈥 a city called Ankara.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 When Paul was in Galatia, what language was he speaking to the people? The Galatians were Celts. The Gal- at the start of the name tells that. Like the people in Gaul and Galicia 鈥 and the Gaels themselves 鈥 they spoke a Celtic language. They were related to us, distantly.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 They still spoke a Celtic language when Paul was among them. A man made a report in the 4th Century AD on their language. He said it was like the language spoken by a tribe in central Europe. They were a Celtic tribe.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 But how did Celts get as far east as Asia Minor? We鈥檒l look at that question next week.Broadcast
