An Litir Bheag 191
Tha iad a鈥 nochdadh anns a鈥 Bh矛oball. Bha sinn a鈥 toirt s霉il air an d霉thaich aca, Galatia. 鈥橲 e Ceiltich a bha anns na Galatian-aich. B鈥 e Galatia r矛oghachd Cheilteach ann an Asia Minor 鈥 far a bheil an Tuirc an-diugh.
Nuair a bha an t-Abstol P貌l a鈥 searmonachadh do na Galatianaich, bha c脿nan Ceilteach aca. Chan eil am B矛oball ag innse dhuinn d猫 an c脿nan a bha P貌l a鈥 bruidhinn riutha.
Nuair a bha na Galatianaich ann, 鈥檚 e Ancyra an t-ainm a bha air a鈥 bhaile. Tha cuid ann an Ankara ag r脿dh gun tug na Galatianaich an t-ainm don bhaile. Seo an st貌iridh a tha aca. Bha batail ann aig muir eadar na Galatianaich agus na h-脠iphitich. Rinn na Galatianaich a鈥 ch霉is.
Chuir iad na h-acraichean anns na teampaill aca. 鈥橲 e ancora am facal Laidinn airson acair. 鈥橲 d貌cha gun robh facal coltach ri sin ann an Galatianais. 鈥橲 ann bho na Lochlannaich, seach ar sinnsirean Ceilteach, a fhuair sinne ar facal fh猫in 鈥 acair. Co-dhi霉, sin an st貌iridh 鈥 Ankara 鈥 鈥渢he place of the anchors鈥.
Nochd na Galatianaich ann an Asia Minor anns an treas linn ro Chr矛osd. Bha r矛gh faisg air far a bheil Istanbul an-diugh. 鈥橲 e Nicomedes an t-ainm a bha air an r矛gh. Bha e a鈥 str矛 le a bhr脿thair airson ceannas. Thug e cuireadh do na Ceiltich thighinn don d霉thaich aige. Bha e ag iarraidh taic bho na Ceiltich. Bha fichead m矛le duine ann. Fhuair iad fearann ann am meadhan Asia Minor. Bha creideamh draoidheil aca.
鈥橲 d貌cha gum b鈥 iad na Galatianaich a鈥 chiad shluagh Ceilteach a chuala an teachd-aireachd Chr矛osdail. Agus thug an litir a sgr矛obh P貌l do na Galatianaich buaidh air Ceiltich Chr矛osdail eile tro na linntean.聽The Little Letter 191
Last week, we were looking at the Galatians. They appear in the Bible. We were looking at their country, Galatia. The Galatians were Celts. Galatia was a Celtic kingdom/state in Asia Minor 鈥 where Turkey is today. There was no Celtic people further east than that.
When the Apostle Paul was preaching to the Galatians, they spoke a Celtic language. The Bible doesn鈥檛 tell us what language Paul was speaking to them.
Ankara is the capital of Turkey. When the Galatians were there Ancyra was the name of the town. Some people in Ankara say that the Galatians gave the name to the town. Here is their story. There was a battle at sea between the Galatians and the Egyptians. The Galatians won.
They took home anchors from the Egyptian ships. They put the anchors in their temples. Ancora is the Latin word for an anchor. Perhaps there was a similar word in Galatian. It is from the Norsemen, rather than our Celtic ancestors, that we got our own word 鈥 acair. Anyway, that鈥檚 the story 鈥 Ankara 鈥 鈥渢he place of the anchors鈥.
The Galatians appeared in Asia Minor in the third century before Christ. There was a king near where Istanbul is today. The king鈥檚 name was Nicomedes. He was struggling with his brother for leadership. He invited the Celts to come to his country. He was wanting help from the Celts. There were twenty thousand people. They got land in the middle of Asia Min-or. They had a druidical religion.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 But that didn鈥檛 last. Perhaps the Galatians were the first Celtic people that heard the Christian message. And the letter that Paul wrote to the Galatians had an effect on other Christian Celts through the centuries.Broadcast
