大象传媒SSO/John Storgards
John Storgards conducts the 大象传媒 Scottish Symphony Orchestra in music by Nielsen, Sibelius and Musgrave. Plus Olli Mustonen performing Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No 3.
In a concert given at City Halls in Glasgow, Finnish conductor John Storgards and his countryman Olli Mustonen join the 大象传媒 Scottish Symphony Orchestra for a programme that begins and ends with music inspired by mythology.
The concert opens with Nielsen's Helios Overture, which depicts the sun over the Aegean Sea, followed by the idiosyncratic piano playing of Olli Mustonen in Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No 3.
To celebrate her 80th birthday, there is a short piece that Scots composer Thea Musgrave wrote especially for Sibelius' 125th Anniversary. The programme concludes with Sibelius' four Lemminkainen tone poems, based on legends from the Finnish national epic the Kalevala, originally intended as an opera on Wagnerian lines.
