Mark Latimer, Asaf Sirkis

Claire Martin presents an interview with versatile pianist Mark Latimer, as well as a concert set at the Jazzland Club, Swansea from Israeli-born drummer Asaf Sirkis.

Claire Martin presents an interview with versatile pianist Mark Latimer. His latest commission, Two Dragons, is an installation for the Big Pit coalmine in South Wales and is about to have its official opening. The composition refers to the mining communities of Chongqing in Central China and South Wales. It is a digital presentation involving modern jazz, improvisation and folk instruments from both Chinese and Western music traditions, with spoken word in Welsh, English and Mandarin, as well as work by digital artist Alex So.

Latimer is a musician equally at home with classical and jazz repertoire - he first appeared on the programme with his trio, featuring Harold Fisher on drums. Since then he has taken part in many projects and albums, including recitals at two prominent London venues, St John's, Smith Square and the Wigmore Hall.

There is also a concert by Israeli-born drummer Asaf Sirkis given at the Jazzland Club, Swansea. He performs with Tassos Spiliotopoulos on guitar and Yaron Stavi on electric bass.
