Documenting the place of village halls at the heart of communities across Scotland throughout the 20th century. The tearing down of old village halls across the Highlands and Islands marks the end of an era. Balivanich, Carinish, Acharacle, Lochmaddy, Leverburgh, Shawbost, Vatersay, Aird, Ness, the Highlanders' Institute - many halls have been replaced by buildings which focus their attention on the needs of a very different generation. The programme is illustrated with hilarious and often nostalgic anecdotes of these special places, so small and unimpressive by the light of day, but which were transformed by night into meccas of music and dance.
