Regarding the Derby grooming case - do you think this is a genuine problem in the Asian community? Plus cooking guru Daksha Mistry joins Nihal in studio to answer your questions.
Nihal chairs the debate at 1. We want your opinion on this - 'Do you think the Derby grooming case brings to light a genuine problem that exists in the Asian community?'
Some of you have probably seen the Derby grooming case reported in the papers today - a gang of predominantly Asian men have been convicted of grooming and systematically raping girls as young as 13.
Many of these girls were white, from broken homes and often in care. Many of the Asian men were of Pakistani origin, some were even married. In total 9 men were convicted. There have been similar cases in Preston, Rotherham, Rochdale and Bradford - that's just in the last 5 years.
The Serious Case Review published in response to this investigation says "more work is needed to understand the significance, if any, of culture and ethnicity in contributing to both perpetrator and victim profiles." So I'm asking you for your reaction today - do you think crimes like this - grooming and raping of young girls by Asian gangs - is a genuine problem?
Is this a problem the Asian community is in denial about, have we brushed it under the carpet? Or is it a simple case of abhorrent criminal behaviour? If you feel that this is an issue that the Asian community needs to raise their voice about, then get in touch. We want to hear your opinion.
After 2, we will be celebrating National curry week and offering you culinary advice will be our resident cooking guru Daksha Mistry.
