Brian Matthew, the voice of sixties popular music, presents the programme for all fans of the decade. With facts, figures, tunes and trivia as well as the Chronicles of the Sixties.

Brian Matthew presents the programme for all fans of the music of the 1960s. Tracks this week include The Freshmen, Chuck Berry, The Supremes, Cliff, Bert Kaempfert, Spooky Tooth, Aretha Franklin, Alan Price, The Byrds and unusually Max Miller who released a track called The Market Song with Lonnie Donegan in 1963. There's also a new feature on songwriting, starting with Chris Andrews.

The Chronicles looks at the building of the Aswan Dam, the last outbreak of smallpox in Britain, Charlie Watts joining the Stones, Sir Matt Busby retiring - or not, and two records which reached number one and then slipped back only to reclimb to number one. What were those records?

Sounds of the Sixties began in 1983 and Brian has been at helm since 1990, bringing to the programme his distinctive voice and unmatchable experience of sixties shows.
