Second Coming
Medical drama series. With Hanssen insistent he can save his life, and Jess applying emotional pressure, will Ric finally accept he has to go under the knife?
Hanssen is insistent that he can save Ric's life in theatre, and puts forward a convincing argument to the team. Ric is less than pleased to find his case under discussion with his colleagues, but Hanssen cunningly manipulates Jess, Ric's heavily-pregnant daughter, into persuading Ric to go ahead with the operation. At the last minute Jess wonders whether she's done the right thing by interfering, but it's too late. Ric's under the knife. The stress causes Jess to give birth, and by the time Ric is coming round from his op, he finds himself face-to-face with grandson Jake.
Elliot is outraged by Hanssen's proposal to take Ric into theatre, believing it to be much too dangerous. He assumes his CT team will back him on this, but isn't surprised to discover Jac is keen to get in on the operation as a way of impressing the boss in the days leading up to her Consultant interview. When Ric is persuaded to agree to Hanssen's suggestion by Jess, Elliot makes her realise just how risky the operation is. She asks Elliot to assist in theatre, much to Jac's irritation, as it means she loses her chance to shine alongside Hanssen. Elliot takes his position and helps save Ric's life.
Ollie is still reeling from his confession to Penny, and her threat still hangs over him. He types up a letter of resignation but doesn't get to send it. During the course of the day he works closely with Frieda and is gradually reinvigorated; she encourages him to retake his F2 year. And so he deletes the resignation letter.
