Adopted child Teresa Weiler speaks to Ruth Wishart about the reasons why her birth mother abandoned her and how little could have prepared her for the news she discovered whilst on the quest to find her biological parents.

After a meeting with social services, Teresa was granted access to her adoption files and learned that her biological parents were in fact brother and sister, which has had a devastating impact on the way she now lives her adult life.

Teresa kept this a secret for many years as she was frightened that she would also be rejected by her adoptive family. She also took the decision not to have children as she was fearful that her genetic make up would affect the physical or mental development of any children she may have had as she is the offspring of an incestuous relationship.
