Johnnie meets the Grammy Award-winning folk singer Loudon Wainwright and his featured album is Paul McCartney's re-issued debut solo album.

Johnnie Walker spins the hits and digs out the rarities from the decade of glitter, glam rock and The Good Life. This week, he chats to Loudon Wainwright, and his featured album is Paul McCartney's re-issued debut solo album which was first released in the aftermath of the Beatles' 1970 break-up.

A Grammy Award-winning American folk singer and satirical songwriter, Loudon is also the father of musicians Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche; brother of Sloan Wainwright; and the former husband of the late folk singer Kate McGarrigle.

Inspired to take up the guitar after seeing Bob Dylan in concert in 1962, Wainwright's career began in the late 1960s when he was discovered playing in folk clubs by Milton Kramer, who became his manager. He signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and released his first album, Loudon Wainwright III, in 1970.

Wainwright is known for the 1972 novelty song Dead Skunk (In the Middle of the Road) and for playing Captain Calvin Spalding (the "singing surgeon") in TV show M*A*S*H, in which he appeared in three episodes during the third season in the 70s. He has a catalogue of 21 studio albums, is currently touring the UK, and his career-spanning boxset, 40 Odd Years, was released last month.

Also on the show, Allan Sutherland from Stonehaven recalls his memories of the decade in My 70s.
