Dream Weaver: Johnnie talks to Gary Wright

Johnnie Walker talks to Gary Wright, the artist behind one of his favourite songs, Dream Weaver, celebrating its 35th anniversary.

From Top of the Pops to platforms and Jackie to jumpsuits, Johnnie Walker revisits the 1970s.

This week Johnnie talks to the artist behind one of his favourite songs, 'Dream Weaver', celebrating its 35th anniversary. Best known for this global smash, Gary Wright is currently on tour with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band and joins to Johnnie to talk about his 40 year career.

Combining synthesizers with rock and funk, Gary Wright left blues-rock band Spooky Tooth in 1975 to go solo, putting out his multi-million selling 'Dream Weaver' album in 1976 and touring with Yes, Fleetwood Mac and Pete Frampton. His piano and keyboard parts can be heard on Harry Nilsson's 'Without You', George Harrison's 'All Things Must Pass' album and Ringo Starr's 'It Don't Come Easy' to name a few. Gary Wright joins Johnnie to talk about collaboration, going stratospheric in the 70s and that magical single.

Also on the show, Johnnie spins tracks to mark Stevie Nicks and Rod Stewart's headline-slots at Hard Rock Calling, and we nod to Paul Simon's Glastonbury appearance, going back to an interview given to Stuart Grundy in 1975 in Radio Rewind.
