At 1, At 1- Did the right people win the International Indian Film Awards (IIFA)?
The Bollywood film awards took place over the weekend. Big winners included Dabangg which picked up ten awards including best film. The other big successes of the night were My Name Is Khan and Baad Baaja Baarat.
Arguably the big shock of the night was that Salman Khan didn't win the best actor prize for his role in Dabangg. That instead went to Shah Rukh Khan for his performance in My Name Is Khan. The nominees are chosen by an industry panel - but it's then the viewing public who vote for the winners. So does this just go to show that the bollywood viewing public have poor taste?
Did you think Shah Rukh Khan's winning performance was deserved? Was his portrayal of a man suffering from Asperger's syndrome convincing? Were you surprised that films like Peepli Live didn't get a look in? Or will these awards always be dominated by a handful of bollywood stars working in the best selling films?
And are these awards now on a par with the Oscars? By taking them to cities such as Toronto is the Bollywood industry being successfully marketed abroad?
After 2- Our guru this week is chef Akhtar Islam. He'll be dishing out advice on how to improve your culinary skills!
