Tai Murray (violin) and Gilles Vonsattel (piano) in Ravel: Violin Sonata. Christian Poltera (cello) and Cedric Tiberghien (piano) in Brett Dean: Huntington Eulogy. Plus Janacek.

Sean Rafferty travels to the south west of Ireland and to the historic town of Bantry, where nature and music exist in perfect accord. The Palladian splendour of the library at Bantry House is the venue for much of the music making, which takes place during the last week of June, and the library double doors open out over the lush beauty and splendour of the Italian inspired terraced gardens and up to the 100 steps, known locally as Lord Bantry's Stairway to Heaven.

Today music by Ravel, Brett Dean and Jan谩膷ek, recorded at Bantry House and St Brendan's Church on Wolf Tone Square in the town. Violinist, Tai Murray with pianist, Gilles Vonsattel begin today's Lunchtime concert with Ravel's jazz-infused Violin Sonata; then the composer in residence, Brett Dean's, Huntington Eulogy - a work which reflect s the natural beauty of the Mudgee region of New South Wales and is also a tribute to a young cellarmaster at Huntington Estate Winery who died in 2001. The programme ends with Jan谩膷ek Quartet No. 2, Intimate Letters, performed by Quartuor Diotima. The work is a declaration of love for the woman who inspired many of Leo? Jan谩膷ek 's final works, Kamila St枚sslov谩. It was written only a few months before Jan谩膷ek's death and he said of the piece, "I have succeeded in writing a piece in which the earth begins to tremble. Here I can find a place for my most beautiful melodies. "
