Johnnie catches up with the American musician and rock and roll maverick Todd Rundgren, who in the 70s recorded as a solo artist as well as with bands Runt and Utopia.

This week Johnnie catches up with the American musician and rock & roll maverick, Todd Rundgren.

After leaving his first band Nazz at the end of the 60s, the next decade marked a turning point for Rundgren. He formed the band Runt in 1970, writing, producing, singing and playing guitars, keyboards and other instruments on two albums.

1972 saw Rundgren step out on his own, releasing the seminal double album Something/Anything? on which he played every instrument on three of the album's four sides. The release featured his signature song and biggest hit in the UK I Saw The Light, which reached 36 on the UK Singles Chart in June 1973.

As the 70s progressed, Rundgren moved towards a prog rock direction, forming the band Utopia and steadily releasing material throughout the decade. He also became an in demand producer, most notable on Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell which went on to sell over 43 million copies, making it the fifth best selling album of all time. Today he continues to tour, with his new album of covers (re)Production released in September.

Also on the show, Johnnie spins some classic tracks from one of the albums of the decade.
