Breadlines and Tinsel
Food poverty used to be confined to the very poorest, and often homeless, in the UK. Not any more. Geoff Bird meets the people who are hungry this Christmas.
With the season of eating drinking and being merry upon us what is Christmas really like for the estimated 4 million Britons who are going hungry? Food poverty used to be confined to the very poorest, and often homeless, in the UK. Not any more.
Geoff Bird uncovers stories of the people who never thought they and their families would go hungry and be dependent on food hand outs.
Hear stories from the kitchens of families trying to survive on food budgets of less than 20 pounds per week and Geoff speaks to a growing number of young people who are homeless. All these people have been brought together by one thing. They don't have enough money to eat.
Geoff also meets the volunteers who are prepared to go to extreme lengths to make sure families in the North have a proper Christmas Dinner.
