Forced marriages amongst people with disabilities

Dil Neiyyar sits in for Nihal and asks whether you have sympathy for parents who want their disabled children to get married. Plus MP Jon Ashworth discusses fasting during Ramadan.

At 1, Dil Neiyyar sits in for Nihal and he'll be asking - Do you have any sympathy for parents who want their disabled children to get married?

A British Judge has annulled the marriage between a woman with severe learning disabilities to her cousin from Bangladesh after authorities reported the family to the police. The Judge ruled that the woman lacked the mental capacity to consent to the marriage and rejected the family's defence that "the marriage was in the young woman's best interests and that an annulment would bring shame on their family". The Forced marriage Unit have reported a rise in the number of people with learning disabilities being married off.

But can you understand why Asian parents do this? Do you sympathise with the reasons families offer as to why they arrange marriages for their severely disabled children? Do Asians need better education on disability? Is it always better to entrust a family member witht he care of a disabled relative? Or do you think that there is no excuse to arrange and force a disabled relative in to a marriage?

Call Dil and tell him what you think.

Later on in the programme, MP for Leicester South, Jon Ashworth, will be speaking to Dil about fasting for Ramadan. What do you think about non-Muslims fasting during Ramadan - disrespectful or noble?
