Problems with modern day marriage

Nihal asks whether a US military court is right to make a Muslim man shave off his beard for his trial. Plus Niven Govinden talks about his new book Black Bread White Beer.

Join the debate at 1 pm with Nihal. He's asking, Is a US military court right to make a Muslim man shave off his beard for his trial?

Major Nidal Hassan is accused of killing 13 people at the Fort Hood base in Texas back in 2009. The 41-year-old says he grew the beard in line with the beliefs of his Islamic faith and that it is part of his free exercise of religion. But a military judge has ruled that his beard is not covered by federal laws protecting religious freedom. He said army grooming regulations, which prohibit beards, overrode religion. His decision is now being appealed against.

So can you see any argument for carrying out something like that even if it's against army protocol? Does it anger you because they're not taking his faith seriously?

After 2, Niven Govinden talks about his new book Black Bread White Beer that touches on the pressure of modern day marriage. And later, we want to hear your Olympic and Paralympic moments.
