An Litir Bheag 383
Bha uaireigin gobha a鈥 fuireach air a鈥 Gh脿idhealtachd. 鈥橲 e Iain an t-ainm a bha air. Bha ce脿rdach aige. Bha bean aige. Bha sn矛omh aice na h-amhaich.
Bha a bhean an-c貌mhnaidh a鈥 trod ris. Bha Iain a鈥 falbh don che脿rdaich airson fois. Latha a bha seo, th脿inig fear 貌g. Bha aodach uaine air. Bha e a鈥 gi霉lain boireannach 貌g air a ghuailnean.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淯ill, a ghobha,鈥 ars am fear 貌g, 鈥渁m faod mi d鈥 innean a chleachdadh?
Chuir e a l脿mh na ph貌caid. Thug e a-mach c貌ig buinn 貌ir. 鈥淧脿ighidh seo thu,鈥 thuirt e. 鈥淣ise, an rud a ch矛 thu, na d猫an thu fh猫in e.
Chaidh am fear 貌g don innean leis a鈥 bhoireannach. Chunnaic Iain gun robh a ceann tromach air shearrach, no c霉laibh air beulaibh. Thog am fear 貌g sgian mh貌r gheur. Chuir e ceann a鈥 bhoireannaich air an innean. Ghe脿rr e dheth e. Thuit a corp don l脿r. Cha robh fuil sam bith ann.
Chuir e don teine e. Dh鈥檕braich e am balg-s猫ididh. Dh鈥檉h脿s an teine teth. Chaidh an ceann na luaithre.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Thog am fear 貌g an luaithre agus phronn e tuilleadh i. Cha robh ann ach duslach. Rinn e smugaid air. Rinn e taois dheth. Shuath e an taois air amhaich a鈥 bhoireannaich. Agus 鈥 abair iongantas 鈥 nochd solas uaine air an taois. Dh鈥檉h脿s ceann 霉r air a鈥 bhoireannach.
鈥淐uimhnich,鈥 thuirt e, 鈥渁n rud a chunnaic thu, na d猫an thu fh猫in e.鈥 Dh鈥檉halbh an gille agus am boireannach.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Goirid 脿s d猫idh sin, c貌 th脿inig don che脿rdaich ach bean a鈥 ghobha. 鈥淪eo sr霉pag dhut, a leisgeadair gun fheum,鈥 thuirt i.
Choimhead e air an t-sn矛omh ann an amhaich a mhn脿. Choimhead e air na sgeinean. 鈥淐uir an t矛 thall an sin,鈥 thuirt e, 鈥渁gus trobhad an seo.
鈥 thuirt i.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Chuir Iain a gh脿irdeanan timcheall a mhn脿. Thog e sgian. Agus ch矛 sinn d猫 thachair an uair sin an-ath-sheachdain.The Little Letter 383
There was once a blacksmith living in the Highlands. He was called John. He had a smiddy. He had a wife. She had a twist in her neck.
John was lazy. His wife was always scolding him. John was going to the smiddy for peace and quiet. One day, a young man came. He had green clothes on. He was carrying a young woman on his shoulders.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲ell, smith,鈥 said the young man, 鈥渃an I use your anvil?
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淪it down,鈥 said the young man. He put his hand in his pocket. He took out five gold coins. 鈥淭his will pay you,鈥 he said. 鈥淣ow, the thing you鈥檒l see, don鈥檛 do it yourself.
John sat down. The young man went to the anvil with the woman. John saw that her head was on back to front. The young man picked up a large sharp knife. He put the woman鈥檚聽 head on the anvil. He cut it off. Her body fell onto the floor. There was no blood at all.
The young man picked up the woman鈥檚 head. He put it in the fire. He worked the bellows. The fire got hot. The head turned to ash.
He picked up the ash and he ground it further. There was nothing left but dust. He spat on it. He made a paste of it. He rubbed the paste on the woman鈥檚 neck. And 鈥 amazingly 鈥 a green light appeared on the paste. A new head grew on the woman.
The young man looked at John. 鈥淩emember,鈥 he said, 鈥渢he thing you saw, don鈥檛 do it yourself. The lad and woman left.
Shortly after that, who came to the smiddy but the smith鈥檚 wife. 鈥淗ere鈥檚 a cuppa for you, you lazy good-for-nothing,鈥 she said.
A thought came to John. He looked at the twist in his wife鈥檚 neck. He looked at the knives. 鈥淧ut the tea over there,鈥 he said, 鈥渁nd come here.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲hat do you want, you lazy oaf?鈥 she said.
John put his arms around his wife. He picked up a knife. And we鈥檒l see what happened after that 鈥 next week.Broadcast
