Martha, Meals and Malawi
Following schoolgirl Martha Payne as she travels to Malawi to see how the money she raised through her blog about her school lunches financed a new school kitchen.
School dinners blogger Martha Payne has travelled to Malawi to see how the money she raised for charity is being spent. The nine-year-old became an internet sensation after Argyll and Bute Council banned her from posting photos of her school meals on her blog. The ban was later overturned after a storm of protest.
After the Lochgilphead Primary School pupil raised more than 拢100,000 for Mary's Meals, the Scottish charity announced it would build a school kitchen in Malawi in her honour. Mary's Meals runs school feeding projects providing meals to children in Malawi and many other countries. Lirangwe Primary School in Blantyre in Malawi has received 拢21,000 towards the kitchen which will provide almost 2,000 children with nutritious meals every day for a year.
Martha and her family travelled to the country to see for themselves how her blog has changed the lives of others. After attending the kitchen opening, she told 大象传媒 Scotland she was very happy, though she added: 'It was quite nerve-wracking because everyone was singing and staring at me.' And the nine-year-old is still reviewing her lunches - she took photographs of her food on the flight to Malawi and said she would be posting them to her blog.
