Reflecting on 1947 independence

Nihal asks whether the events of 1947 in India are relevant to young British Asians, and whether remembering them is a positive or a negative thing.

Is what happened in 1947 India relevant to young British Asians? And is remembering 1947 a positive or a negative thing to do?

Speaking ahead of the cinematic release of Midnight's Children, its author Salman Rushdie has said the story is still as relevant today as it was when it first came out thirty years ago. The novel focuses on history through the eyes of children who are born at the stroke of midnight on Indian independence. It has sparked some negative response on it's portrayal of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. But do you think the events are relevant to young Asians? As a parent do you have a duty to teach your kids about independence? Or does it have no real significance if you're born and live in this country?

Later in the programme we'll be reflecting on 大象传媒 Asian Network's ten year anniversary. In these ten years, how has the station impacted on your life? If you're someone who has stayed with the station and listened to the phone-in, what have been your best bits?

We'll also be looking at India's series defeat in the cricket. England have won their first Test series in India for 27 years - what's wrong with Indian cricket?
