Mr Singh International Turban Pageant
Nihal asks whether the Mr Singh International Turban Pageant is needed or if it is disrespectful. Plus he talks to Riaz Khan, author of Khan: Memoirs of an Asian Football Casual.
Is there a need for a Mr Singh International Turban Pageant or do you think its disrespectful?
This weekend in Amritsar the competition took place aimed at promoting Sikh values. The pictures on the websites are quite startling because they show there is an element of physical attractiveness in the judging and these boys are very proud of the way they look. Do you think that is the best way to promote Sikh values?
The competition was won by Tejinder Singh and the catagories he excelled at included best physique, best dress sense and something called "talent" which takes in things such as Bhangra and the Sikh martial art Gatka.
Is this the best way to change the image of those who wear the Turban? Or do you think the images showing the "Physique" round has a hint of the beauty contest and may open them to ridicule.
At 11 Riaz Khan, the author of 'Khan: Memoirs of an Asian football casual', talks to Nihal.
