Concert for Bangladesh

Johnnie Walker winds the clock back for a minute to George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh, and Colin Blunstone from the Zombies picks his favourite '70s tracks.

Re-winding to 1971, Johnnie's '70 second 70's' takes us back to the first benefit concert, as sponsored by musical superstars; the Concert For Bangladesh. Organised by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar the gigs were held in Madison Square Gardens, New York City at the beginning of August featuring a supergroup line-up of Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Badfinger and Leon Russell. Delayed for release by complicated record label negotiations, by 29th January 1972 the Phil Spector produced live-album reached number 1 in the UK charts.

Also on the show Colin Blunstone, vocalist with The Zombies, picks some of his favourite music of the 1970's and reminisces about the decade he launched his solo career.
