Poet Jean Sprackland visits the characterful Leeds city centre bar, Whitelocks, famous for its poetic punters from Betjeman to T S Eliot. In the company of poets Ian Duhig, Jon Glover, Rommi Smith and Antony Dunn, she explores the legacy of the postwar Leeds poetry renaissance that produced such eminent poets as Geoffrey Hill, Tony Harrison and Jon Silkin.

Jean Sprackland is a poet and writer. Her poetry collections include Tilt and Hard Water, and her latest collection, Sleeping Keys, is published by Cape in September 2013. Her recent non-fiction book, Strands: a year of discoveries on the beach, was a ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4 Book of the Week.

The Poets

lives in Leeds. He has published several poetry collections including: The Bradford Count, The Lammas Hireling, The Speed of DarkÌý²¹²Ô»å Pandorama (Picador, 2010). A stage play written with Rommi Smith, God Comes Home, was performed at West Yorkshire Playhouse in 2009.

is the author of several collections of poetry, including To the Niagara Frontier, Magnetic Resonance Imaging ²¹²Ô»åÌýGlass is Elastic (Carcanet, 2012). He was born in Sheffield in 1943 and was educated at the University of Leeds, where he started to help produce and edit Stand magazine, of which he is now Managing Editor.

is a Leeds-based poet and playwright, whose work often fuses spoken word and music together. She has held numerous national and international residencies including Parliamentary Writer in Residence (2007). Her work as poet and dramatist has been widely broadcast on ´óÏó´«Ã½ radio. Her first collection of poetry and CD were both entitled Moveable Type (Route, 2000) and she is currently working on a novel in verse called Mornings and Midnights for Peepal Tree Press.

 lives in Leeds. He received an Eric Gregory Award in 2000. He has published three collections of poems, Pilots and Navigators, Flying Fish and Bugs (Carcanet OxfordPoets, 2009). He also writes for the theatre and his plays include Dog Blue, Goose Chase and Shepherds’ Delight.
