Radio 4 Opening Announcement:Ìý
´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4, time now for this morning’s Sunday Worship which comes live from the Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs in Cambridge. The preacher will be Father Christopher Jamison and the service is introduced by Monsignor Peter Leeming.

Ìý
Introduction – Monsignor Peter Leeming (PL)
Ìý
Good morning and a warm welcome to the Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs here in Cambridge on this, the Fourth Sunday of Easter.ÌýÌý The Church throughout the world continues in these fifty days of Easter, to celebrate and proclaim the wondrous deeds of the Lord who passed through the waters of death, so as to carry his people to the rich pastures of his eternal Kingdom.
Ìý
The Gospel we will hear this morning introduces us to one of the most profound images of Jesus as the Good Shepherd.Ìý This Shepherd not only leads and feeds his sheep but searches for them when they go astray, and even gives his life for their deliverance.ÌýÌý Christ our Shepherd continues to call one and all to share his life and love, and to partake of that rich banquet, prepared for all who would follow him with joy to the Father’s house.
Ìý
Throughout the ages and still today, men and women have heeded the Shepherd’s call to leave all and follow him.Ìý ÌýToday marks the Fiftieth World Day of Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood, Diaconate and Religious Life.ÌýÌý We are delighted to welcome as our preacher this morning, Father Christopher Jamison, Benedictine monk and Director of the Catholic Church’s National Office for Vocation. ÌýÌýFather Christopher will help us consider how we may discern the Shepherd’s call in our own
lives and respond to it, with eager and generous hearts.
Ìý
So join us now as we prepare to meet the Risen Lord in Word and Sacrament. Here in the Eucharist, the Good Shepherd gathers his holy flock, leads us to life-giving pastures and nourishes us with the heavenly gifts of his Body and Blood.Ìý Blessed are those called to the Supper of the Lamb – alleluia!ÌýÌý
Ìý
Hymn – O Flock of Christ

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Ìý
Peace has come down from God on high!
The King of Peace in death did lie!
To save the Sheep the Lamb did die!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia
Ìý
Christ lives again, whose blood was shed,
The Lord of life, our living Bread,
The Firstborn risen from the dead!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia

A reading from the Book of the Apocalypse
Ìý
I, John, saw a huge number, impossible to count, of people from every nation, race, tribe and language;Ìý they were standing in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb, dressed in white robes and holding palms in their hands.Ìý One of the elders said to me, ‘These are the people who have been through the great persecution, and because they have washed their robes white again in the blood of the Lamb, they now stand in front of God’s throne and serve him day and night in the sanctuary; and the One who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.Ìý They will never hunger or thirst again; neither the sun nor scorching wind will ever plague them,
because the Lamb who is at the throne will be their shepherd and will lead them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.’
Ìý
The Word of the Lord (All) Thanks be to God
(Choir)Ìý Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia
Ìý
Cry our with joy to the Lord all the earth.
Serve the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing for joy.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia
Ìý
Know that he, the Lord is God.
He made us we belong to him,
We are his people, the sheep of his flock.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia
Ìý

Ìý
(AN) A reading from the holy Gospel according to John
(All) ÌýGlory to you, O Lord
Ìý
(AN) Ìý
Jesus said:
Ìý
‘The sheep that belong to me, listen to my voice;
I know them and they follow me.
I give them eternal life;
they will never be lost
and no one will ever steal them from me.
The Father who gave them to me is greater than anyone,
and no one can steal from the Father.
The Father and I are one.’
Ìý
The Gospel of the Lord (All) Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ
Ìý
Homily – (Father Christopher Jamison OSB)
Ìý
(PL) Let us profess the faith of the Church:
Ìý
(Choir/sung)
Ìý
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
He descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
Ìý
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.Ìý Amen
Ìý
Ìý
Prayer of the Faithful
Ìý
(PL) The Lord Jesus is our good shepherd, whose mercy shows us the way to eternal life.Ìý Let us praise God for the mercy that knows no end.
Ìý
(Reader) For an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life:
that men and women may respond generously to the call of the one who is
both faithful shepherd and victorious Lamb. ÌýÌýWe pray to the Lord:
Ìý
(PL) Lord hear us (All) Lord graciously hear us
Ìý
For the leaders of the nations:Ìý that they may labour for the good of all and
work for peace, justice and the flourishing of all humanity.Ìý We pray to the Lord:
Ìý
(PL) Lord hear us (All) Lord graciously hear us
Ìý
For those burdened with serious decisions and for those who have gone astray like sheep:Ìý that they will hear the voice of the Good Shepherd, the guardian of their souls.Ìý We pray to the Lord:
Ìý
(PL) Lord hear us (All) Lord graciously hear us
Ìý
That all our prayers and petitions may be joined with those of Mary, Mother of the risen Lord, the English Martyrs, and all the saints who rejoice around the throne of the Lamb.
We pray to the Lord:
Ìý
(PL) Lord hear us (All) Lord graciously hear us
Ìý
(PL)Ìý
Almighty God, you sent your Son as our shepherd
and call each of us to serve you with faithfulness and joy.
Hear these our prayers and bring us to the joy that knows no end.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.Ìý Amen
Ìý
Hymn – The King of Love my Shepherd is
(S/Aunison)
The King of love my shepherd is
whose goodness fails me never;
I nothing lack if I am his,
and he is mine for ever.
Ìý
(Choir harmony)
Where streams of living water flow
with gentle care he leads me;
and where the verdant pastures grow,
with heavenly food he feeds me.
Ìý
(solo)
Perverse and foolish I have strayed,
but yet in love he sought me,
and on his shoulder gently laid,
and home, rejoicing brought me
Ìý
(Choir harmony)
You spread a table in my sight
your saving grace bestowing;
and O what joy and true delight
for your pure chalice flowing
Ìý
(Choir unison)
And so through all the length of days
your goodness fails me never,
Good Shepherd, may I sing your praise
within your house for ever.Ìý
Ìý
(PL) Pray brethren,
that my sacrifice and yours
may be acceptable to
God, the almighty Father.
Ìý
(All) May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands,
for the praise and glory of his name, for our good
and the good of all his holy Church
Ìý
(PL)Ìý
Grant we pray, O Lord,
that we may always find delight
in these paschal mysteries,
so that the renewal constantly
at work within us
may be the cause of our
unending joy.
Through Christ our Lord.
(All) Amen
Ìý
(PL/sung)
The Lord be with you (All) And with your spirit
Lift up your hearts (All) We lift them up to the Lord
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God (All) It is right and just
Ìý
(PL)
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
at all times to acclaim you, O Lord,
but in this time above all to laud you yet more gloriously,
when Christ our Passover has been sacrificed.
Ìý
He never ceases to offer himself for us
but defends us and ever pleads our cause before you:
he is the sacrificial Victim who dies no more,
the Lamb, once slain, who lives for ever.
Ìý
Therefore, overcome with paschal joy,
every land, every people exults in your praise
and even the heavenly powers, with the angelic hosts,
sing together the unending hymn of your glory,
as they acclaim:
Ìý
(Choir)Ìý Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of HostsÌý;
heaven and earth are full of your glory, hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LordÌý;
Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest.
(PL)Ìý
You are indeed Holy, O Lord,
the fount of all holiness.
Ìý
(PL/CJ)
Make holy, therefore these gifts, we pray,
by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall,
so that they may become for us
the Body and + the Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Ìý
At the time he was betrayed
and entered willingly into his Passion,
he took bread and, giving thanks, he broke it,
and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Ìý
TAKE THIS, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />ALL OF YOU, ANDEAT IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU
Ìý
In a similar way, when supper was ended,
he took the chalice
and, once more giving thanks,
he gave it to his disciples, saying:
Ìý
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEWAND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUR FOR YOU AND FOR MANY
FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS,
SO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
Ìý
Ìý
(PL/sung)Ìý
Ìý
The mystery of faith.
(Choir) We proclaim your death O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again.
Ìý
(PL/CJ)
Therefore, as we celebrate
the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,
Ìý
we offer you Lord,
the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
to be on your presence and minister to you.
Ìý
Humbly we pray
that partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
(CJ)
Remember, Lord, your Church
spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
together with Francis our Pope, the bishops
and all the clergy.
Ìý
Remember also our brothers and sisters
who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
and all who have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your face.
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with the Blessed Apostles,
and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify you, through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Ìý
(PL/BJ/sung)
Through him, and with him and in him,
O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honour is yours,
for ever and ever.
Ìý
(Choir)Ìý Amen, Amen, Amen
(PL)
At the Saviour’s command
and formed by divine teaching,
we dare to say:
Ìý
(Choir/All sung)
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
Ìý
(PL)
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,
graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ
Ìý
(All) For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and forever.
Ìý
(PL)
Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles:
peace I leave you, my peace I give you,
look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her peace and unity
in accordance with you will.Ìý Who live and reign for ever and ever.
(All) Amen
Ìý
Ìý
(PL)
The peace of the Lord be with you always (All) And with your spirit.
Ìý
(AN)Ìý Let us offer each other the sign of peace
Ìý
(Choir) Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace
Ìý
(PL)
Behold the Lamb of God,
behold him who takes away the sins of the world,
blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
Ìý
(All)Ìý Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
Ìý
(Choir)Ìý Agnus Dei (‘Missa Princeps Pacis’ – William Lloyd Webber)
Ìý
(PL)
Ìý
Let us pray
Ìý
Look upon your flock,
kind Shepherd,
and be pleased to settle in eternal pastures
the sheep you have redeemed
by the Precious Blood of your Son.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
(All) Amen
Ìý
*(Solemn Blessing – if time allows)
Ìý
The Lord be with you (All) And with your spirit
Ìý
(AN)
Bow down for the blessing
Ìý
(PL)
May God, who by the Resurrection of his Only Begotten Son
was pleased to confer on you
the gift of redemption and of adoption,
give you gladness by his blessing.
(All) Amen
Ìý
May he, by whose redeeming work
you have received the gift of everlasting freedom,
Make you heirs to an eternal inheritance.
(All) Amen
Ìý
And may you, who have already risen with Christ
In Baptism through faith,
By living in a right manner on this earth,
Be united with him in the homeland of heaven.
(All) Amen
Ìý
*And may the blessing of almighty God,
the Father and the Son + and the Holy Spirit,
come down on you and remain with you for ever.
(All) Amen
Ìý
(AN/Sung) Go in peace glorifying the Lord by your life
(All) Thanks be to God
Ìý
