Behind the scenes at the V&A Club to Catwalk: London Fashion in the 80's Exhibition

Behind the scenes at the V&A Club to Catwalk: London Fashion in the 80's Exhibition

The eighties saw perhaps some of the biggest social, economic and cultural changes here in the UK and around the world, for many the newly emerging music scene and closely connected fashion world allowed self-expression like never before.
Ìý
London clubs such as Taboo, Billy's and Blitz were amongst a handful of venues that pioneered these new sounds that demanded an equally ground breaking and stylish crowd.
Ìý
What emerged was a fashion scene that took the rest of the world by storm - clothes by new designers like Katharine Hamnett, John Galliano and Bodymap - became internationally recognised and highly sought after as a result.
Ìý
Club to Catwalk: London Fashion in the 1980s at the V&A looks back at the trends and designs created in London at the time and the synergy between the music being played byÌý Leigh Bowery and others, and the clothes party-goers proudly stepped out in.

Thomas Magill went for a walk around the exhibition with its curator Claire Wilcox and took a stroll down memory lane with DJ Jeffery Hinton and fashion goddess Betty Jackson...Ìý
Ìý

is at the V&A until February 2014.
