One of the most influential Christian writers of his generation, Lewis was an academic who achieved unexpected popularity.听 The children鈥檚 fantasies, the Chronicles of Narnia, the skilfully woven arguments of Mere Christianity, the clever satire of the Screwtape Letters. Lewis鈥檚 appeal remains undimmed and his books still sell in massive quantities.听 Today Roy Jenkins meets people who have fallen under his spell, and considers the continuing significance of his work.
