Knife Crime - Winning the War
David Gillanders returns to Glasgow to observe the positive interventions that have enabled the city to shed its 2005 moniker as the murder capital of Europe.
A decade after completing a long-term stills project exploring knife crime in his home city of Glasgow, documentary photographer and filmmaker David Gillanders returns to ask 'where are we now?'
Gillanders takes us back to the bad old days of 2005 when the press described Glasgow as 'The Murder Capital of Europe' and a United Nations report named Scotland as the most violent country of the developed world. However, in 2013 it is clear that something is changing for Glasgow and for Scotland.
Using a combination of award-winning photographic stills and a distinctive style of observational filmmaking, Gillanders explores the frontline of violence today, looks at some of the positive interventions that have taken place and celebrates some unlikely unsung heroes.
