Paul Berry
Paul has always been passionate about music and studied clarinet and saxophone at the Belfast School of Music with Arthur Acheson and Gillian McCutcheon.
He is a former principal clarinettist of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland and Ulster Youth Orchestra, and sat on the board of UYO for over 10 years. Having decided to read Mathematics at University, he was awarded a Distinction Scholarship (as one of the University's top 10 graduates) to fund a PhD in Quantum Optics.听 Although an engineer by profession, Paul continues to teach and play the clarinet, working as a clarinet tutor for the Belfast School of Music and a freelance orchestral player.听 Paul is also musical director of the chamber choir Sciolto and has even been known to dabble in church music as a member of the chamber choir in St George's Church, Belfast.
Sciolto Chamber Choir
Sciolto Chamber Choir was formed in 1996 by a group of like-minded singers who wished to explore the wide variety of choral music written for small chamber ensembles.听 In keeping with our name (which means 'free and unrestrained'), the choir has performed every conceivable type of choral music from early renaissance music through to brand new commissions by emerging composers.听 Sciolto has contributed to broadcasts on 大象传媒 Radio 2, 3 and 4 and RT脡 Lyric FM, and have sung in a wide variety of contexts and venues including the splendid surroundings of St Catherine's College, Cambridge, the ruins of Greyabbey, Hillsborough Castle, on top of a parade float and even been backing singers for a rock band!
Ian Mills
Ian is a Northern Ireland-based organist and choral director. Having graduated with Bachelor and Masters degrees in music from Queen鈥檚 University, Belfast, he was appointed Organist & Master of the Choristers of St Columb鈥檚 Cathedral, Londonderry in 2006. Under his direction, the choir has broadcast extensively and, in 2011, released their first commercial recording, produced by Martin Neary (former Master of Music, Westminster Abbey). He also directs the multi award-winning Belfast-based chamber choir Renaissance, the Altnagelvin Hospital Choir, and is active throughout the province as an accompanist and teacher.
Altnagelvin Hospital Choir
The Altnagelvin Hospital Choir was established in 1994 in order to provide a creative music-making opportunity for the Trust鈥檚 staff. 听Since then, the choir鈥檚 membership has flourished to around 55, incorporating singers from all walks of the medical profession including medics, surgeons, dentists and support staff. 听In recognition of their cross-community work, the choir was awarded the Queen鈥檚 Award for Voluntary Service in 2010.
Choir of Saint Columb鈥檚 Cathedral
The Choir of Saint Columb鈥檚 Cathedral is one of very few Anglican choirs of Boys and Men in Ireland. 听Drawing a broad membership from the North-West, its singers maintain the choral tradition which has sustained the worship of Almighty God in Derry鈥檚 oldest building for almost four centuries. 听Aside from their weekly duties, the choir have toured, broadcast and recorded, and, recently, played a prominent role in Derry鈥揕ondonderry鈥檚 year as UK City of Culture throughout 2013.
Renaissance
Renaissance is a Belfast-based Chamber Choir, formed in 1976 by the late Ronnie Lee. The choir spent its early years building up a notable local reputation and in 1984, it entered and won the inaugural 大象传媒 Sainsbury's Choir of the Year competition. 听Over the years, Renaissance has worked closely with ensembles such as the Ulster Orchestra and the Studio Symphony Orchestra, including several critically-acclaimed recordings.
Their broad repertoire spans early polyphony to jazz standards.
