Marie Lacey
Marie Lacey has been a performer for over 4 decades, during which time she has travelled internationally as a worship leader / motivational speaker.听 Her powerful voice and humorous personality has earned her great respect in the Northern Ireland music scene and abroad.听 As founder and director of the successful Belfast Community Gospel Choir she is unashamedly demonstrative when performing and her natural exuberance and enthusiasm is mirrored by every BCGC member.
Her great passion has always been gospel and soul music and so it was that in 2009 she pursued her dream to form the funky, fun and fabulous BCGC.听 Taking into account the myriad of exciting experiences Marie has had in music, without hesitation she rates the creation of BCGC as her greatest musical achievement.
Belfast Community Gospel Choir
Led by their charismatic director and founder, Marie Lacey, the sound that BCGC produces is nothing short of dynamic.
Formed in 2009, Marie鈥檚 dream was to create a choir that, through unity, would spread the message of love, joy and peace and promote a positive image of Northern Ireland internationally. Her dream has certainly become a reality. The choir membership is made up of people from all sides of the community and is truly multi-cultural with members hailing from Nigeria, South Africa, Barbados and Spain.
They have performed for Royalty and Heads of State and have just returned from a 6 day tour in New York City where they performed at New York New Belfast conference, Rutgers University New Brunswick and church concerts in Brooklyn and Harlem.
Nigel McClintock
Nigel was born in Belfast and was educated at Methodist College Belfast and the Royal College of Music, London, where he was a prize-winning student, studying organ with Nicholas Danby and piano with Patricia Carroll. He held Organ Scholarships at Mill Hill School and St Albans Cathedral. Following graduation, Nigel was appointed Director of Music at St George's Parish Church Belfast, where he directed five successful recordings of the men and boys choir. In 1999, Nigel pursued further study at the Royal College of Music in the form of an MMus degree in Choral Conducting with Paul Spicer. He was appointed Director of Music at Croydon Parish Church in South London, a post he held for eight years, and taught at Whitgift School.
听
In January 2008, Nigel took up the new position of Director of Music at St Peter's Cathedral, Belfast, where he established the Schola Cantorum. He is an experienced recitalist and is also Director of the boys course of the Charles Wood Summer School in Armagh.听
Schola Cantorum
Schola Cantorum was founded in March 2008 and has a membership of forty boys aged between 7 and 19 with 10 probationers in training.听 It is under the Patronage of James O'Donnell KCSG, Organist and Master of the Choristers, Westminster Abbey.听 The boys rehearse twice a week and sing at weekend liturgies and monthly recitals in the cathedral.听 Schola has broadcast Easter Sunday Mass live on Eurovision as well as singing on Radio 2, Radio 4 and Radio Ulster.听 Schola sings at the 11.00am Sunday Mass in the cathedral with repertoire ranging from sixteenth century to music by present day composers.听 In September 2008, Schola established a successful term time recital series on the last Friday of each month in the cathedral from 6.30 - 7.15pm, still running to this day.
The choir has toured extensively to many world-famous and prestigious venues with high-profile听 engagements and many highlights since 2008.听 For example, 2010 took the choir to Rome to sing Mass in St Peter's Basilica before Pope Benedict XVI and the same year Schola was the subject of a three-part 大象传媒 Television Documentary, 'Choirboys'.
In July they will tour Paris, singing at Notre-Dame-de-Paris, Saint-Eustache and Saint-Sulpice.
