Peggy Sue - The 拢1 Guitar That Is Worth a Million
The story of how Alvin Stardust's 拢1 guitar came to be worth a million.
In tribute to the late Alvin Stardust, this is the story of how his 拢1 guitar came to be worth a million.
When 12-year-old Bernard Jewry (who went on to find fame as Alvin Stardust) was given a three quarter sized Spanish guitar by his parents which cost just over 拢1, little did he know that, 5 decades later, if that guitar could talk what a story it could tell!
Luckily Alvin was with the guitar every step of the way and in this fascinating programme he tells the story of how the guitar got it's name - Peggy Sue - and came to be signed by such rock 'n' roll luminaries as Buddy Holly and The Crickets, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Billy Fury, Marty Wilde and Chuck Berry among many others.
When this programme was first broadcast in August 2014 Alvin took listeners back to his days as a 12-year-old from how, on a trip to Doncaster, he ended up 'jamming' with Buddy Holly to being backstage at The Albert Hall and on the same bill as The Beatles, on stage with Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent as well as Johnny Kidd's brush with a boxing promoter!
Three quarter size guitar Peggy Sue has lived to tell the tale and is now valued at over 拢1 million pounds.
