Documentary. While the Irish divisions fought together at Messines, Ireland was split over the issue of conscription, leading to partition and the creation of two nations.

While the three Irish divisions continue fighting in Europe, the Easter Rising leads to executions in Dublin, a blood sacrifice for an Irish Republic. Only months later, a Unionist sacrifice is made at the Battle of the Somme, a momentous and at times myth-bound event for the future state of Northern Ireland. The Irish divisions fight together at Messines, but at home the country splits over the issue of conscription. This split helps lead to partition, and the creation of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
