Crucial Vinyl: The Harder They Come

Don selections cross time, space and genre, plus he selects the soundtrack to 1972 film The Harder They Come as his Crucial Vinyl.

Each week Don selects a piece of Crucial Vinyl from his collection. He calls it his 'C.V.'. He explains how he came across the album, picks three favourite tracks and explains why it means so much to him.

This week he selects the soundtrack of the film The Harder They Come, released in 1972. Don says,

"Along with the movie, this soundtrack is credited with breaking reggae globally. It's essentially a compilation of classic Jamaican singles of the time. Only the title track (sung by Jimmy Cliff) was actually recorded for the film, the others were personal favourites of the film's director, the late Perry Henzell. This movie and its soundtrack (along with the punk rock d.i.y. ethic) was directly responsible for me becoming a film-maker. Mr. Henzell The Don salutes you."
