Crucial Vinyl: De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising

Don selections cross time, space and genre, plus he selects De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising as his Crucial Vinyl.

Don choses another piece of 'Crucial' Vinyl' from his album collection. He explains why it means so much to him and features three key tracks.

This week he selects De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising, released in 1989.

Don says, "Now, by the time this album came out, I was in full Big Audio Dynamite-mode, and figured I knew a thing or two about sampling, but that didn't stop Mick Jones and I being absolutely floored on first hearing it. This record flew in the face of what was happening in the rest of the hip hop world. Even its title was left of centre, as it was inspired by a Johnny Cash tune (Five Feet High and Rising), so, right up front, you knew these brothers were coming from somewhere else, and the records they did sample bore testament to that - absolutely brilliant."

Don's other selections cross time, space and genre, mixing new releases with timeless classic and overlooked gems from the UK, the USA, Jamaica and beyond.
