The Don crosses time, space and genre and spreads Rumours
Don's selections cross time, space and genre, plus he features three tracks from his Crucial Vinyl of the week, Fleetwood Mac's 1977 release Rumours.
As ever, the Don's selections cross time, space and genre, featuring brand new tracks, classics and overlooked gems from the UK, USA, Jamaica and beyond.
He also picks another favourite album for his Crucial Vinyl feature, plays three key tracks, explains how he first came across it and why it means so much to him. This week it's Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, released in 1977, at a time when Don was DJ at Britain's first punk club, the Roxy in London's Covent Garden.
Don says, "This week's Crucial Vinyl is an album that I wouldn't have given the time of day when it was released back in 1977. Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumours' was a million miles from what was going on in my hometown, and you know what that was.
So what changed? Well time, circumstance and, clearly, me. Now, that's not to say that I'd gone soft, but in the mid-eighties, when I found myself touring the west coast of America, it suddenly made more sense. Behind the lush sound and west coast harmonies were tales of recording sessions troubled by relationship breakdowns and excessive drug use. In a weird way, this record was as much a product of its environment as 'Never Mind the Bollocks' was.".
