Sonia makes a decision about her future but doesn't quite get the reaction she was hoping for. It is the first day of Dot's trial, and Stacey takes to the stand.
Alfie and Kat stare at their winning scratch card in disbelief. Alfie assures Kat and Stacey that it’s all genuine; he spoke to someone this morning to have the numbers checked. Kat panics that it’s going to change them but Alfie assures her that it’s just their luck finally coming in. On the stall, Alfie reminds Kat to not breathe a word to anyone until they have the cheque in their hands. In the Minute Mart, when Billy morosely purports that no-one ever wins on scratch cards, Kat can’t keep her mouth shut and states that they do. Alfie enters the Vic to see a huge celebration taking place – Kat’s told everyone their news. As Kat and Alfie share a happy dance in the Vic, Alfie is given food for thought.
It’s the first day of Dot’s trial. As Max, Carol and Abi and Fatboy take their seats in court, a frail looking Dot is led in and pleads not guilty. DI Keeble gives evidence and tells the court what she witnessed on the night of the arrest. When the prosecution question Keeble over the demeanour of Dot that night, Keeble admits that she showed no emotion at all and that she remained adamant throughout that she was culpable for the death of her son. The defence lead Keeble to state that Dot’s fingerprints were not found on the syringe, but it is re-iterated that this doesn’t necessarily mean that she never touched it. Later, Stacey stands up in court and admits that Dot was not surprised at the news of Nick’s death. The judge calls proceedings to a halt until the next day, when the prosecution’s final witness – the drug dealer – fails to turn up.
Sonia informs Carol that she’s not going to court today, she needs to sort out the mess she’s made with Martin; Rebecca clearly thinks that she and Martin are getting back together. Sonia finds Martin on Bridge Street, angry that he’s not kept what happened between them a secret - but Martin dismisses her; he’s off to court. Tina sees Sonia in the café and invites her over to the Vic to join in on Kat and Alfie’s celebrations, but Sonia refuses; she needs to chat to Rebecca. Sonia is pleased when Tina makes it known that she wants her and Rebecca as part of her family. Back at the Butchers’ Sonia attempts to explain to a confused Rebecca that she and Martin are not getting back together. Martin is unsupportive and Rebecca storms out. Later, Rebecca overhears Sonia telling Carol that Rebecca needs to accept that she and Martin are over; she’s in love with Tina and that she wants Tina to move in with them. Sonia turns up at Patrick’s house and presents Tina with keys, asking her to move in. Sonia is taken aback when she sees Rebecca in the living room – she’s told Tina about Sonia sleeping with Martin.
Denise is dubious of Vincent doing another disappearing act, but Kim insists that she and Vincent are together. Ronnie questions Vincent over whether he has sorted out the drug dealer – the prosecution’s main witness – but Vincent gives an ambiguous answer. Later, Vincent arrives at Patrick’s and hands Kim over some money for Pearl’s maintenance. Kim is distraught when Vincent admits that he can’t be with her. Kim follows Vincent out onto the Square and slaps him hard. Vincent takes off his wedding ring and walks away. Denise and Shirley try and console a sobbing Kim who is adamant that she wants to see a solicitor to get a divorce. Vincent returns to a thankful Ronnie – Dot’s got her break. Ronnie maintains that although she appreciates what he’s done, nothing’s changed, she loves her husband.
In the Vic, Shirley informs Mick and Linda that if they want to buy her out, the price has gone up by 20 per cent. When Buster questions Shirley over whether she’s done the right thing, Shirley is adamant that they’re not going to be able to get hold of that much money and will come round to the idea of her staying. Mick and Linda discuss Shirley’s offer – Mick refuses to barter with Shirley and claims that they just need to find the money. Mick finds Alfie out the back of the Vic and Mick confides in Alfie that he’s trying to buy Shirley out. Later, Alfie corners Mick again and asks how much he’d want for the pub; Alfie wants to buy the Vic...
