With Penny Gore. Baiba Skride (violin), Lauma Skride (piano) perform Nielsen's Violin Sonata No 2. Plus the Escher Quartet playing Mendelssohn's String Quartet No 6.

Penny Gore continues this week's series of Lunchtime Concerts recorded at the Great Music in Irish Houses Festival 2015.

We begin at the Royal College of Physicians, Dublin, where sisters Baiba and Lauma Skride perform Nielsen's Violin Sonata No.2 in G minor: a work composed in September 1912 and premiered the following April by violinist Axel Gade - son of Niels Gade, one of Denmark's most famous musicians.

The Escher Quartet, former Radio 3 New Generation Artists, continue with Mendelssohn's String Quartet No.6 in F minor, Op 80, performed in the tropical surroundings of Ireland's National Botanic Gardens. This, his last complete string quartet, is a dark tour-de-force celebrated for its blistering intensity.
